World Physiotherapy Day Celebrations in Namibia

September is Physiotherapy Month in Namibia...

Physiotherapy Month, running throughout September, will have a national focus on cardiovascular health and stroke prevention. From the Ongwediva Trade Fair in the North to the Stride for Strength Trail Run in the South, physiotherapists will take center stage as we highlight their essential role in movement, recovery, and disease prevention.

The Namibian Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) is proud to announce our World Physiotherapy Day celebrations, taking place from 1–12 September 2026. This year’s global theme—cardiovascular disease and stroke—aligns strongly with our mission to promote prevention, rehabilitation, and healthy living across Namibia.

The NSP already participated in the Namibia Heart Foundation’s Heart Week at Maerua Mall from 1 to 5 September, an exciting collaboration that strengthened our shared commitment to heart health.

Additionally, for the first time, the NSP had a presence at the Ongwediva Trade Fair, supporting two member physiotherapy practices with branded merchandise. This marked an important milestone in expanding physiotherapy visibility and public engagement.

Across all events, our focus remains clear: sharing valuable information with patients and the public.

1. World Physiotherapy Day Celebration Period: 1–12 September 2026

A. Private Practices – Health Screenings

Private practices across Namibia have signed up to offer free health screenings at their clinics. Screenings include blood pressure, BMI, physical activity assessments, and education on exercise for heart health and stroke prevention. The NSP is supporting participating practices with posters, brochures, and T‑shirts.

B. Community Health Screenings – Windhoek

The NSP will host public screening activations at selected venues: • Wernhil Park Shopping Centre (in front of Model) – 9 September • Pupkewitz Lifestyle Centre, Kleine Kuppe – 12 September

Screenings include blood pressure, BMI, physical activity assessments, and exercise education for cardiovascular and stroke prevention.

C. Mini Conference – Friday, 11 September 2026

The two‑week celebration concludes with a CPD mini‑conference on Friday, 11 September. Presenters will speak on topics related to Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke, including exercise prescription, post‑stroke rehabilitation, and the physiotherapist’s role in primary prevention.

2. Stride for Strength Trail Run – Saturday, 26 September 2026

To maintain momentum, the NSP will host the Stride for Strength Trail Run on 26 September 2026, promoting physical activity for cardiovascular health and stroke prevention. Trail runs will take place in Windhoek, Swakopmund, Tsumeb, and Lüderitz.

Let’s use September to show Namibia how physiotherapists prevent disease, promote movement, and support recovery.
